Changed my life! I had surgery on 7/29/08. At the time of surgery I weighed 252 lbs. As of now, 5 months later, I weigh 173 lbs., I've dropped 12 dress sizes, I am no longer diabetic, I don't have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, or polycystic ovary syndrome.

I can sit in chairs and not worry if they will be comfortable if I have to be there long periods of time. I fit in elevators without squishing people. I can shop for clothes in stores instead of through catalogs or online.

So YES! It's life changing, and it's worth it!

I had gastric bypass 8 1/2 years ago and know hundreds of people that have had it and several other kinds of weight loss surgery. I had no complications and lost exactly half my weight. I am size 2-4 now and have maintained my weight loss the entire time.

It can be a miracle BUT you cannot go into it thinking that if you JUST lose the weight, your life will be perfect. Life is never perfect...it is up to you to be happy but it certainly made my life a much better place to be.

I know two, one is my aunt. She went from small planet to very shapely in about a year. It made a new woman out of her. She was happier, could move about more easily, and looked twenty years younger.

The second is my cousin. She lost about a hundred pounds and then jsut stopped losing weight. She still eats like a pig and, sadly, never changed her diet. It saddens me to know she'll be in an early grave.

i've performed about 80-ish gastric bypass mental health evaluations. in each case, the person has benefited from the surgery. no one ever came back for adjustment counseling. remember, there used to be about a 1% risk of death associated with GBS, from what i understand, most deaths are attributable to ingesting solids on too rapid of a basis. most GBS requires lifestyle change that doesn't come easily!!! the surgery necessitates change for a time, but, so many folks don't continue to follow the new procedure and, poof.
