  • I have a Durango (same year) that had the problem. The engine had to be rebuilt. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope it's something small.
  • Does the engine lope when the rpms drop? If they do than the IAC valve may need to be cleaned. If not i would replace the oil pump before going as far as a rebuild unless the truck is not running well. My 94 dodge ram also has a 318 and its oil pressure would sometimes drop when the rpms drop because the oil pump was weak and the pressure of the engine at higher rpms helped the pump to pressurize the system. This is common on most engines if they have anywhere from 120k-200k or greater. Yet if you are confident in your oil pump try using a higher weight of oil which will help keep the pressure up. so instead of 10w-30 change your oil and put in some valvoline or penzoil 10w-40 but no greater. Try these before you rebuild the engine
  • WHEN THAT OIL GAUGE READS 0.1 PSI,IF ITS TIME TO DO SERIOUS REPAIRS TO THE ENGINE (IF YOU DIDNT ALREADY) THSOE LIFTERS AND ROCKER ARMS IN YOUR ENGINE SHOULD BE RATTLING LIKE THEY WERE STARVING FOR OIL! DO YOU HERE THE ENGINE RATTLING? DID YOU TRY THICKER OIL YET? IM PROBABLY TOO LATE BUT IF NOT,GIVE IT A TRY.IF YOU DONT HERE ANY NOISES,IT COULD BE A BAD GAUGE.IVE REPLACED MANY OF THEM.
  • i had the same problem with my dodge ram and if you keep driving it it will lock up and you will have to rebuild or replace the engine if u replace the oil pump it should fix the problem.i waited to long and had to replace the engine.
  • More than likely, the oil pump in your ten year old truck has failed. If you keep driving it like that, you'll be replacing the heads or worse.
  • Holy fukoli.. 10 Thousand RPMS? I'm suprised you haven't sent a pushrod through the side of your block - especially with no oil pressure. For certain - don't rev it past 3K until you figure the oil out. Does it click or knock? Does it burn oil? Oil pressure drop can come from several sources: Worn oil pump Worn Journal bearings Worn Main bearings worn Cam bearings (with worn bearings, the oil is allowed to leak out around the bearing, reducing pressure.) If your bearings are really that worn, the engine would knock and hammer like a wheat thresher. And if you twisted it at 10000 RPM's it would definitely have a "come apart". Before I did exploratory surgery, I would go to a shop and have them hook a Bourdon tube type hydraulic guage to one of your oil galley holes to get an accurate reading. Either way, the 5.2 isn't a hard engine to rebuild. I wish you well.
  • i have a 1996 replaced everthing to do with the oil pressure then bought a manule gauage gage from parts store idle is 14 then hit the gas and 40 or more try it see what happens been told as long as above 4 psi idle good to go
  • Hi i have a 1997 ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.2 v8 318 engine replaced the oil pump twice . The truck has 293.000 miles all highway miles changed the oil every 3.000 miles found out that using oil additives with teflon in them causes oil deposits that turn in to carbon thus cloging the center hole in the oil pump screen to clog. Causing no oil pressure or pressure to go up and down if the truck is a 4x4 you can change the oil pump without lifting the motor . the oil pan can be removed done it twice . Installed a high volume oil pump this time . The gauge reads 45 pounds of oil pressure at cold idle then drops to about 25pounds when warm . Hope this will help
