I get asked if I participate in "risky" behaviors and then they list things like IV drug use and unprotected sex with strangers. I've never been outright asked about homersexual activity. Straight people CAN get HIV/AIDS just as easy, but are less likely to get it. I want to know why they ask my child if there is a gun in the house.

I would be very offend, VERY

Three guys who have all seen psychologists and psychiatrists have told me that they actually asked them if they masturbate. So just like a shrink, I don't think the doctor, if he's asking you this, means to offend you or humiliate you, he needs this answer to validate the symptoms or whatever and help him draw a cause or conclusion. Although I still think it's weird, because most doctors always just ask how sexually active you are, or if you currently are, or when the last time was, and bla bla bla, they don't actually refer or name any specific sexual orientations. But on the other hand, I'm pretty convinced that there are a lot of exceptions in which they really have to have specific answers about it. I mean, if you go see a doctor because you have a mushroom farm on your ass, it's not exactly normal. XD

Doesn't matter if you are homo or hetero. They give the same form to everyone. They also ask if you are black or white...ever hear of cycle cell? The form is only used to evaluate potenential issues based upon statistical analysis. It's really for your own good....chill!

It's wrong for you to be offended. As a homosexual you are incredibly more at risk for AIDS as well as a long list of other STDs. This is also the wrong category for the question. Placing it here shows you to be easily offended.

I would be incredibly offended, and I would complain vociferously. It is perfectly fine for them to ask if I have HIV, heart disease, asthma, etc. It is most definitely NOT OK for them to ask my orientation, as this has NOTHING to do with the medical care I plan to receive. Honestly? I would get a group of my friends and sue their ass to Sunday for such discriminatory practices.

I get asked this whenever I give blood. They also ask if I use any IV drugs. I don't find it offensive, I assume it's just statistically more probable that people in those groups could contract HIV. I always have them test my blood for HIV anyway when I donate.
-
It is wrong since statistically more heterosexuals have HIV. I also don't care for what race are you since scientifically I'm of the human race.
-
As a person that works in the medical field..and has also done hiv/aids research i learned that ANYONE can get hiv..regardless of orientation. These questions are discriminatory and completley inappropriate. Asking if you have RISK FACTORS if its relevant to the treatment you are seeking is one thing...but asking orientation is offensive and I would be VERY offended.

It's never WRONG to be offended by ANYTHING. It would be wrong if you reacted violently or something, but feeling offended is just that - feeling offended. Why would you think it's wrong? It's the way you feel. You don't even have to be homosexual to be offended, just like racial comments offend people regardless of whether or not the comment refers to their particular race. As long as you are safe in regards to STDs, etc, you have every right to be upset that someone would assume that just because a person is of a particular orientation that they wouldn't protect themselves. I never really thought about it one way or another (the question on the forms) but a person can get AIDS or HIV from never even having sex - you can get stuck with a needle or something and contract it. And it offends me when a form wants to know what ethnicity I am when it has nothing to do with anything & they don't have a multiple choice option or even all the ethnicities of the world listed. It's a personal thing & no one can fault you for feeling offended.

Well if you as a Homosexual & get offended by them asking you that, then should I be offended as a straight woman that they ask me the same question? It is a medical facility!!! And whether you like it or not Homosexuals are a far greater risk of contracting Aids than a straight person. I would be offended if they didn't ask either one of us! Aids is a a mean disease. It doesn't see race, sexuality or economic stature! If we are to get it under control and maybe have hope to cure it someday, then we need to know the facts, all of them! It IS my buisness if you are subjecting me to the possibility of contracting Aids while attending to you in a medical facility because you are having Homosexual relations and are not protecting yourself from Aids! Being embarassed by your sexual preference is not an excuse for putting other peoples live's at risk.

They have no business asking your sexual orientation, because that has no bearing on your "risk." It's your behavior (unprotected sex, multiple partners, IV drug use) that has any bearing. And people of all orientations are at risk.

HIV isn't gay or straight and neither should the test be!!
-
WHen I go for blood donation they always ask me if I have ever had a sex with another guy cos if I have then they wont take my blood. Its bullshit.

I find the question very offensive. My brother had testicular cancer and was operated on for this. He went in to the Canadian Cancer Society building to look at whether to take radiation or chemo. He is a computer programmer with an Aids society for a client. The doctor looked at me (while my brother was naked on the examining table) asked me " Is your brother gay" and "Do I have to worry about HIV) I got angry and said my brother doesn't have sex with computers. My brother got dressed and we left. My brother had enough on his mind with Cancer and did not need this stupid question. Unless the doctor intends to have sex with the patient then the question is foolish to say the least.
