In the United States, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) voluntary ratings are: G- General audience, suitable for all ages PG- Parental Guidance suggested PG-13 Some material inappropriate for those under the age of 13 R- Those under 17 must be accompanied by an adult NC-17- Nobody under 17 admitted http://www.mpaa.org And of course, if something is rated X, XX, XXX, etc. then you must be 18 or older

The English ones are:- U- Universal and all ages can watch the movie PG- Parental Guidance where you have to have parental permission to watch the movie 12a- You can see the movie if you're under 12, but have to be accompanied with someone over 12. 15- No one under 15 can watch it 18- No one under 18 can watch it

In Canada, rating are established by the province in which the films are shown. In Ontario, the rating system is: G = Suitable for all ages. PG = Parental guidance advised. 14A = Persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. 18A = Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. R = Restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. In Québec, the rating system is: G = Suitable for all ages. 13+ = Persons under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. 16+ = Restricted to persons 16 years of age and older. R = Restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan use the ratings: G = Suitable for all ages. PG = Parental guidance advised. 14A = Persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. 18A = Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. R = Restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. Adult = Explicit sexual material, restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. Manitoba uses the ratings: G = Suitable for all ages. PG = Parental guidance advised. 14A = Persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. 18A = Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. R = Restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. Adult = Explicit sexual content or extreme violence, restricted to persons 18 years of age and older (video rental only). The Maritimes uses the ratings: G = Suitable for all ages. PG-DP = Parental guidance advised. 14 = Persons under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. 18 = Restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. XXX = Explicit sexual content or extreme violence, restricted to persons 18 years of age and older. E = Exempt (not reviewed).
