    If the HEI unit is complete, all you need to operate it is a 12ga. wire connected from the IGN terminal of the ignition switch to the BAT terminal of the HEI unit. It will connect to the HEI unit with a 1/4" spade connector. Because FORD did not use this heavy of wire for the OE distibutor, you may want to replace it with the red 12 ga. size. The "TACH" terminal is used only if you have a tachometer that uses a coil trigger signal to operate. Make sure base of distributor and block is clean as this provides the ground circuit.
