I' m not sure officially but I was teaching Scuba in pools and the ocean 3 days after I had my nipple pierced. I never had any problems.

You should give it at least one whole month. It really depends on each individual case, but that is a safe amount of time.

when i got mine done i was told this: (as far as i remember it was a while ago) - not to swim in public pools for a couple of weeks. - swimming in your own pool is fine if it is clean. - and swimming in the ocean is also fine

i am a swim instructor and i went into the pool the week after I got my navel pierced and it became infected even though I cleaned it! just be really careful of the cleanliness of the pool and clean the peircing after very well!
