  • Okla-homey12/24/2005, 11:17 PM The snow was falling Christmas Eve. I stole behind her in the frozen foods, And I touched her on the sleeve. She didn't recognize the face at first, But then her eyes flew open wide. She went to hug me and she spilled her purse, And we laughed until we cried. We took her groceries to the checkout stand, The food was totalled up and bagged. We stood there lost in our embarrassment, As the conversation dragged. We went to have ourselves a drink or two, But couldn't find an open bar. We bought a six-pack at the liquor store, And we drank it in her car. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now. And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how. She said she'd married her an architect, Who kept her warm and safe and dry, She would have liked to say she loved the man, But she didn't like to lie. I said the years had been a friend to her, And that her eyes were still as blue. But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw, Doubt or gratitude. She said she saw me in the record stores, And that I must be doing well. I said the audience was heavenly, But the traveling was hell. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now. And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to time. Reliving in our eloquence, Another 'auld lang syne'...... The beer was empty and our tongues were tired, And running out of things to say. She gave a kiss to me as I got out, And I watched her drive away. Just for a moment I was back at school, And felt that old familiar pain ......... And as I turned to make my way back home, The snow turned into rain ..............

  • The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star Then the child moved ten times round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like, when youre older, must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down Were captive on the carousel of time We cant return we can only look behind From where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town And they tell him, Take your time, it wont be long now Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down Were captive on the carousel of time We cant return we can only look behind From where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true Therell be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down Were captive on the carousel of time We cant return, we can only look behind From where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game

  • In My Life - The Beatles There are places I remember All my life though some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places had their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life I've loved them all But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more In my life I love you more
