Home owner's: How long after buying your first home did it take to start getting bills & financials (your budget) straightened out. (I was told you can't go by your first 6-12 months as they are higher then they will be once you are settled)

We got our finances straightened out before buying a house that way we know what we was working with and what we could handle once we signed on.

If I remember, it was about a year before I felt settled again financially. I went from an apartment to my first home, so there was tons of homeowner stuff, like yard tools and such, that I needed to buy. But now, 14 years later, it's the best feeling because the house expenses have continued to get smaller in proportion to my income, something I know wouldn't have happened in an apartment.

Didn't take much time for us. We knew what our expenses would be and expected the other bills. And we never worked with a budget in those early days. We just knew what things were going to be ahead of time having done our homework. Same thing in our new home, though we were prepared for the high taxes having asked about them but they are still shocking and no one could be prepared! lol!!!
