Hi, (with a wave back). Right as above, Sonny & Cher. This is their first song. Song written by Sonny when he was working for Phil Spector. Sonny fell in love with Cher when she was a back-up singer for one of Phil's sessions. Sonny decided to put the 2 of them together as Sonny & Cher and the rest is history.

By the way and although Sonny & Cher had a monster #1 hit with this song back in 1965, and were the original artists to sing it (plus Sonny wrote it), but back in 1985 the British reggae group UB40 (known mainly for their remake of Neil Diamond's "Red, Red Wine") had a duet with Chrissie Hynde (lead singer of the Pretenders) of this song that is just as classy as Sonny & Cher's original version -- it didn't sell as well as the original, but it is definitely a GREAT version that deserves a listen. I think any radio station that has a large collection of 1980's music, might have UB40 with Chrissie Hynde's 1985 remake (I do have this on vinyl and CD).

I believe the latest version of the song is in a JC Penney commercial for Everlon Diamonds. This version of the song is performed by a German Duet named "Night Bird"
