When I was young, in Puerto Rico, I did and thank Heavens nothing bad happened. Now a days I would think twice about hitching a ride.

I hitched a ride from my military base in Kimberley South Africa to JHB. This happened all the time. In fact we used to have a sign we were actually stood.

No. I'd rather walk in the rain and get where I'm going rather than hitch a ride a end up on a missing list.
