When you are going over the accesories you can look at the bottom and it will tell you what each one does.

They are used to increase/decrease characters stats, when u equip them check out the list of stats for the character on the right hand side of the screen if its blue the stat has incresed if its red the stat has decreased. The most useful accesory that i found in this game was the crystal crown it increases, hp, mp and ap significantly and raises magic and summoning power.. unfortuantely this accesory is only found after u mix 18 other items in the item workshop. (WARNING: to remove an accesory which increases your characters AP u may need to remove abilities)

Some accessories raise your defense, some accessories raise your attack, and some to both.
