More or less 25 km. I was only a little kid (5 or 6 years old) at that time and I was trying to run away - not because I was angry at my mum & dad - but because I was curious and wanted to see the 'outside world' and it was just for fun I guess. I didn't get too far because I was going uphill and on the wrong side of the road.

At least a hundred miles. I have done four full century rides, ages 29, 30, 46, and 47. Also, I have done one Ride the Rockies tour in Colorado that was 495 miles over six days, or is it daze? The secret? Get a comfortable road bicycle, and ride at your own pace. Oh, training helps too, but you don't have to go overboard. Most organized Century rides provide plenty of food and drink so stop and take advantage of it.

I rode 32 kilometers to an old fort on a "bike hike" when I was in youth group. It was blazing hot and I didn't drink enough so after I got there my vision blacked out while I was eating my lunch but no one noticed because I sat down when it happened and put my head down. It only lasted a couple of minutes and I didn't blackout completely. When my vision cleared I drank a whole bunch of water then when it was time to go I rode my bike back 32 kilometers. Total for the day was 64 kilometers.

In one day? About 225 km - a 200 km "brevet" with the randonneurs, a group that does long distance cycling plus riding home afterwards. That's their "short" ride, there are also 300k,400k,600k,1000k and 1200k events (1200k in 90 hour time limit - the ultimate event is Paris-Brest-Paris) Next year I hope to do a double century - 200 miles. I've also ridden further on multi-day touring trips carrying camping gear. In the future I want to ride across Canada Pacific to Atlantic oceans. The key to riding a bike far is to keep eating and drinking while you ride so you don't run out of energy, pick an aerobic pace you maintain forever, and buy a good quality bike setup to fit you well and comfortably.

In one day? On a road bike, 120 miles from Mt Laguna in San Diego County to Palm Springs. The descent into Palm Springs is awesome! On a track bike, 88 miles from Santa Cruz to Woodside, CA (up Hwy 1 then thru La Honda) ... that ride *felt* like 1,000 miles. Ran out of water, food, money and had no cell phone. I would have called a cab.
