  • If the ball is caught before it bounces, I'd call it an out.
  • The batter is out. I have seen this many times when the outfield fence was a lot shorter. In the case of the catch and falling over the fence, batter is out. Any runners on base move up one base if less than 2 out. (OBR 7.04.) If he is on the fence while catching the ball or in the air or climbing, the catch stands and any runners on base must tag in order to advance unless the fielder falls into the dead ball area, stands or other out of play area. http://www.sjsports.com/asktheump/archives2.html http://www.sjsports.com/asktheump/
  • You see it more in little league, college, or softball than you do in baseball but it happens. If a ball is hit in the air, and an outfielder jumps over the fence catches it, and falls on the otherside of side of the fence, and holds on to it, the batter is out. I once saw a highlight reel where a rightfielder or CF running back to catch the ball, went through the fence/wall pannel and i think he caught it before going throught the wall and the batter was out. now if the outfielder leaps to try and take away a home run, catches the ball in his glove but the glove with ball in it goes over the fence it IS a homerun.
