  • Because Barney is so ubiquitous and insipid.
  • It's the annoying songs that do it
  • im pretty dure this is because other chiuldren characters are not purple...or have an annoying voice..or change the lyrics of real kids songs in order for it to fit their show... and most importantly, they dont sing "I love you, you love me"...nothin wrong with that..but when a big annoying purple dinosaur is singing it, it gets annoying...
  • Barney was EVERYWHERE. You couldn't escape him and his annoying songs, but there are others. Remember those Teletubbys, and what about that tickley Elmo?
  • There is something about purple singing dinosaurs...
  • I like Barney! Both my kids LOVE it.
  • Maybe because he's the only one who's big and purple.
  • Barney is just extremely evil. I mean, what kind of dinosaur has arms that dont even reach anything? They just flap around like little stumpy stumps.. its just so off putting. Watch that Angel episode called 'Smile Time' and you'll get a bit more insight into why people think he's evil. Its just impossible to believe that anyone sane could have come up with a big stupid purple dinosaur named Barney, with a hugely oversized head and grossly undersized forearms, which prances around singing "I love you, you love me".. The guy who came up with Barney must have been smoking something pretty strong. I mean, he's just frightening. If that thing came at me down a dark alley, I'd be wetting myself. Its just too scary for a grown man in a costume to act like that..
  • They don't have as many videotapes and dvds. (For the record, I never "hated" Barney, but after 4 kids, the videos DID become a bit annoying.)
  • Who ever said that "We" don't hate numerous other children's make-believe characters? As far as I'm concerned Caillou, every single one of the Power Rangers, and numerous other children's television characters ought to writhe in eternal hellfire forevermore while Pee Wee Herman stands over them laughing and occasionally jabbing them with a sharpened bit of wood. As for Barney in particular, the main reasons I've heard from my mum (Who has decades of experience in child development) for hating Barney are that his show dumbs everything down so much that it often winds up being more of a damper than an aid to childrens' learning process, that all of the characters and scenarios in his program are *Extremely* unrealistic (And not in the good, imaginative sort of way, either), and over all, that the dinosaur himself is creepy and annoying as hell.
  • Some people tend to "hate" on things that others tend to love in excess.
  • I find most of them to be quite annoying :)
  • lol oh B/C OF THE SONG THE SONG I LOVE YOU YOU LOVE ME ugh. it's horrible. that's what killed it for me
  • I hate all of em. I had to live with some people who had kids for almost a year, and it was Backyardigans, Seasame Street, Teletubbies and freakin Dora the Explorer. I know every damn theme song and I promise you this... My kids are watching Veggie Tales. Only one I haven't become sick of. *sings* We are the pirates who don't do anything...
  • Barney was the character that was everywhere, like everyone said. He had his own movie and clothing line, etc. My son was into Blues Clues and my daughter tried to get into Boobahs. Barney was fairly educational, and tried to teach the kids things. Blues Clues was the same...and it was everywhere too.Teletubbies was crap, Boobahs were idiotic....a lot of those shows were just plain stupid. Personally I'm glad I missed Barney with the kids, but it really wasnt that bad in comparison to other crap they try to sell to our kids.
  • I don't like barney for reason I won't go into here. I don't like the Teletubbies either for similar reasons. Ugg-huhhh (giggles) C'mon children!!! Guhh-huh. Let's sing a song!!! Gu-huh uh-guh giggled the purple dinosaur.
  • I think it's pretty sad that a fictional character that is made to teach kids manners, regardless of whether or not he teaches them how to deal with negative emotions, is critized and mocked so ridicously. It's a kid's tv show...and i'm amused that they actually have people who devoted their time to pusblishing parodies on Barney getting murdered brutally, or showing him as some sex creep. The show just teaches the same idiologies that should be instilled in a 5 year old. A 5 year old does not need to be subjected to negativity for fucks sake. And beings how that is the basis for some people's critisim with the show, i bet if the show did do that, then people would be saying "Omg, he teaches kids negative things and how to cope with it".......If you have to hate on Barney then perhaps you should get a fucking life seriously.
