  • Very nice observation. I wander if the producers noticed the fluke.

In the 1954 movie Sabrina, the businessman Linus Larrabee (played by Humphrey Bogart) makes a call from the phone in the back of his limousine." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_mobile_phones Interesting.
  • I didn't really understand the technological parts of this article, but it was interesting, nonetheless. An excerpt: "In Europe, radio telephony was first used on the first-class passenger trains between Berlin and Hamburg in 1926. At the same time, radio telephony was introduced on passenger airplanes for air traffic security. Later, radio telephony was introduced on a large scale in German tanks during the Second World War. After the war German police in the British zone of occupation first used disused tank telephony equipment to run the first radio patrol cars.[citation needed] In all of these cases the service was confined to specialists that were trained to use the equipment. In the early 1950s ships on the Rhine were among the first to use radio telephony with an untrained end customer as a user. • They used radio waves, as in ship-to-shore communications. Marconi was doing this back in the 1910s and 1920s, so it certainly would have been refined by the 1950s. It is not a "mistake" by any means, they existed.
  • My family had a "car phone" back in the early 60s. Many limos had them too. They were very expensive and hardly got any reception. But they worked on a different principle, if I recall. They were like a radio that you called into and then the operator would connect you to someone by their landline.
  • Watch for an answer to my question When was the first U.S. patent issued for a wireless telephone? http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/627706 You will be surprised how long this technology has been around.
