If 2 skyscrapers collapsed, I am sure the little black boxes did not survive the crash. Some of the early feeds that were saved have been released in the recent movies.

I have no idea. They were probably burried under all the rubble, and are now kept in the police investigations office. Good question though!

They first had to survive the impact of the crash, the fireball that happened during the crash, and then the collapse of the buildings. It would then have to be found amongst all the rubble, if it was even still intact.
