I've had em leave envelopes inside the screen

I would be happy they came in to drop it off safely inside the house/front door instead of leaving it out in the open for someone to steal. Or that I don't have to go all the way to the post office during office hours.

If it's the screen/storm door that would be okay with me but it would kind of freak me out if they tried to open the inside door. I'm lucky, I have had the same UPS man for at least 17 years and if we aren't here when he comes, he leaves me a little note where no one could see it and then puts it in a designated place. My USPS mailman will drive up, beep the horn, throw the packages near my stairway (rain or shine), run back to his car and take off! It pisses him off that he has to drive all the way down my driveway to deliver the package! He used to stuff them in the box; even things that didn't fit or leave them just sitting on the ground leaned up against the mailbox so anyone that happened to drive by could just pick them up! My husband put a not inside the mailbox door that said "please do not stuff packages in this box, if they don't fit; please drive them down to the house."

Usually they put it on the porch or in the mailbox. They have put small things inside the screen door between it and the main door.If they tried to open the main door I`d think rude and wonder about attempted theift.Maybe I`m just not trusting enough.

It is a shame but I agree. doesn't matter who it is, unless related and trusted, no one should step over your door step unless invited in by you. I'd feel invaded otherwise.Good intent or not

Why can't they text you the night before they deliver? That way you can arrange for someone to be home or arrange another delivery day.

If someone tried to open my door my dog would go nuts and they may get a bad welcome from him. I have not trained him to do anything like that but he is very very protective of me and my family until he sees you are cool then he is completely different and very loving as he is with us

That would never happen in England. If the porch is open they may open the porch door - to be fair most doors can't be opened from the outside without a key, but not all, and they would never think about attempting to open it. If they did I don't know what I would do, I like my postman and wouldn't want to be rude.
