  • That would be fine, but only if they were not terribly ugly! lol! I had rather keep my illusions. I have sent my "real self' to several friends. They have not been too horrified, but I had rather keep it private, generally. And I like my bear. He is much handsomer than me.
  • They are posted. Here's mine http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/72780/208790 Click "read all" for about 667 more :)
  • I think it adds to the mystique. One can't judge a book by its cover, but rather by the content. Hence, posting actual pictures may be counter productive as our prejudices toward faces affect how we read answers posted . Yeah.
  • Yep! I do...I like to look at who i'm talking to... But some of the other avatars are so creative! *^_^*
  • While that would be nice, I am the victim of severe cyberstalking and I know EXACTLY how dangerous it is to put a picture of yourself out on the 'net. For MOST users it is not dangerous but, if you collect a stalker, a whole new world opens up. Trust me, it is not a nice one. You can collect a stalker by someone you have met IRL or online deciding to go after you or just some nutjob in a chatroom who is bored deciding to do it to a stranger. I have never put an actual photograph of myself out there and I thank the GODS that I never have.
  • Well, especially on AB, I feel a certain amount of "buffer" is necessary. Some of these questions and answers are pretty personal and revealing. My little cartoon me will have to do for now. If anyone who wanted to was smart enough, it wouldn't be that hard to find real pics of me anyway.
  • Everyone can see what I look like by clicking on the link to my blog from my profile page. About everyone though, Personally I don't care at all. I don't think that it is really that important what they look like. Plus, if everyone had their photo instead of a cartoon or whatever, it would be harder to remember who everyone is. Because I suck at names, you see, and I remember bright pics better. I like it the way it is.
  • No, it is good to have friends just because of their way of being and not because of their looks. I feel OK with just the first one. Besides, real-life photos are not part of the mystery.
  • About 4 photos of me have been posted on AB. It would be interesting to see what others look like. But I think it's a personal choice. I might change my avatar to a photo of myself.
  • If people want to show theirselves that is fine. I am not interested in showing my picture. I like my privacy, always have and always will. If I go to an AB get together than people can see me. :)
  • I actually did that before: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/1109106 See? I used to have pictures of myself for my avatar too, and some on my profile, but I don't feel like doing that anymore
  • My parents never let me put pictures of myself on the Internet, so I can understand if people don't use their photos for their avatars, since its about personal privacy. But, to answer your question, yes I would prefer it people used real-life photos of themselves, but I can understand if they can't or don't want to.
  • My avatar is me!
