  • I made some laundry detergent using this Instructable a few months ago: http://www.instructables.com/id/EBWA2DI68IEYF7J32A/ It calls for grated soap, borax, and washing soda (or oxi clean). It worked pretty well, but it's a little too much trouble to make for me.   • Russians invented some stuff it's called Ultraton, you put this electric stuff in the water and it cleans you laundry with just a little detergent. That's what they say. But in reality it sucks.
  • Good Morning, Lady Alathia of Vulcan. You will need 3 things, a soap of some sort, washing soda and borax, use Ivory or your own homemade soap you will need to use the whole bar. We used Ivory, Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, and 20 Mule Team. 1/3 bar Ivory or any other type of soap, that is close ½ cup washing soda ½ cup borax powder Grate your soap, Put 6 cups of water in a pan, add the soap chips, when melted, remove from heat, add the washing soda, borax, and four cups of hot water, Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir. Let the soap sit for a day or two and it will gel. You use ½ cup per load.
  • I use Charlies Soap, works wonders even on cloth diapers! 100% biodegradable and very gentle. My girls have had no problems with it and I use it for everything. They are comparable in price to store bought and if you look around on the net you can find discounts.
