  • Yes that is surprising, I would expect the more people would say 2 or more races.
  • No..what surprises me is that everyone hasn't figured out by now there is only one race...we all began from the same source..God did not create separate races for separate humans..therefore, where on earth does this funky idea of different races come from? No one in his/her right mind thinks that way...right? :)
  • Two or more races?? If you count all the ethnicities (and they DID specify ethnicities), I would bet that a large portion of the people in America would fit into that category. I mean, for those folks who have had ancestors on this continent for awhile (not me) there has most likely been ethnic mixing at some time or another. Somewhere in the woodpile is going to be more than one ethnicity. I do not believe there is pureblooded anything with the possible exception of folks like the Australian Aboriginals who have NOT come in contact with white folks. I never know where to stick myself when asked about my ethnicity at jobs or whatnot (I have never bothered to fill out a government survey). I always just say "other". No form has a section for us.
  • I'm not surprised as I think most people know 3-4 of their generations and most people are sticking to their neighborhood. I am from Belgium and can trace my lineage back 5-6 generations there with a little English on the wrong side of the blanket. My husband traces both sides of his family back to Yorkshire UK and Ireland, as far back as the 1400s. So we're as European as they come. How far back are we supposed to go before we find another 'race'?
  • No. It does not surprise me. People want to belong to a group. Look at Obama. His mom was white and dad was black. He claims to be black. It's neither right nor wrong, but he chose one to associate himself with one group over the other. Aren't we all of the human race? We're of different ethnicities, but the same race.
