The connotation in definition of "unique" in and of itself indicates duplication to be unlikely.

This reminds me of when someone tells someone there one in a million....and it makes the person feel good inside...until they realise that theres approx. 6 billion people in the world divide that by a million..and theres 6 thousand people just like you

Everyone IS unique because we all have unique experiences in our lives that help shape our personalities as adults.

In addition, no one thinks alike in everything, which also makes us unique.

Furthermore, no two people look exactly alike--not even identical twins, whose fingerprints aren't even the same.

Bottomline: We're all unique because no one is quite like us, in terms of our gifts & talents, our looks, and our unique life experiences!

I'm not sure this is a proper answer as such, but did you ever see Monty Python's "Life of Brian."?
Brian stands on a balcony above adoring crowds:
    Brian: You are all individuals.
Crowd: (In unison) Yes, we are all individuals
    Lone tiny voice: I'm not.

I suppose the answer is that there's always a way to be unique- just be creative about it!

Everyone IS unique. However, it doesn't make you "just like everyone else." By the definition of "unique: Being true for exactly one thing, distinctive, without equal", can't we then say that "unique" is defined differently for each person?

Yes. The goal of every person is to be an individual just like everyone else. We are all unique and all the same at the same time. There is no contradiction.

Everyone's unique in their own special way. Everyone has different talents and different abilities that they can do and some others may not be able to do.

Is there no potential way, I could have had the same DNA entirely as someone else in time? People get convicted on incorrect DNA analysis suprisingly regularly. I'd like to say that in actuality there are probably a lot more cases of strange similarity then any reasonable person might expect.

It all depends on everyone's favoritism ... who can like something in somebody that's unique for him ... everyone has uniqueness in different different ways ........

People don't mean with being unique there aren't any characteristics we share, or properties.
They look at you in total.
One of these communal things is if you look at us in total we're all unique.

    -----------------------------
    Some random example:
    -----------------------------
If you look at the head of all (living) people you see that they all have one, not the same shape, but they all have one.
Then you could better ask: "Is it unique for a (living) person to have a head?"
And the answer is "having a head (for a living person) is not unique."

But if you ask "Are we humans unique?", I conceive that as the question: "If you combine our thoughts, body, what we do, is the result unique?" and then I'm pretty sure everyone is unique. It's really coincidental if there's a person exactly the same as you are.

I dont think I'm done. Being unique like every one you love is fine... but being unique like the people you despise (perverts, rapists, thieves, murderers, politicians) just sucks.

Im as unique as a snowflake/strand of dna/fingerprint but you couldnt pick me out of an ocean of other intricately specialized sea of human beings.

Well... I figured out the answer myself. On a smaller scale you are unique to the one's you know and care about. To your family, friends and associates, you fill a niche that no one else in the world could key into... just as everyone else does.

First half of the phrase think small... and last half of the phrase think BIIIIIG!!!

Na screw that... I hate the phrase!

I may be totally missing the point of the phrase but when people say that every human being is unique... I can see exactly what they mean. But when you say that everyone else is unique also... that takes the splendor away from being unique... as if you were just like everyone else.

I don't want to be unique just like everyone else. I want to be unique just like me. My genetic makeup's uniqueness cannot be helped but I don't want my personality and character to be unique... just like every single human being that has ever existed and every one that will exist. What wise man coined that phrase? What kind of cruel crusade was he on?

Even when taking into account the true definition of unique as many people have, If everyone is unique this means everyone shares a characteristic (in this case uniqueness which is no exception to the rule as it is still a characteristic) therefore uniqueness is not unique, and as uniqueness takes into account all other characteristics, if everyone is unique then no one is. But if you look at the statement “if everyone is unique then no one is”, you realise it’s a paradox and therefore there is no answer...I think
