  • If you look at pedophiles on megan's law websites, you notice that they tend to look alike.
  • Do you think you could detect a pedophile in a police line up simply by the way he looks? Maybe you picture him as a dirty, old man or a young scar-faced man. Pedophiles or serial child sex abusers come in every age, size, race and social class. They may be the hard-working father and husband next door. They may be the Professor at the local University or the pastor of a youth group. You cannot tell a child molester by his looks. http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/child_abuse_and_recovery/92325
  • You can't! They come in all shapes and sizes. Take a look at http://www.perverted-justice.com
  • Not at all. I worked with one as a teacher years ago. He is still around and working in respected positions. And there is nothing I can do about it, because none of his victims have come forward, and I only have his crimes by hearsay. If they were easy to pick, do you think that we would have judges that are later convicted, or police, or members of parliament?
  • If they happen to be molesting a child when you look at them, yes. Otherwise, no.
  • http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=spot_the_pedo Note:the pedos come in every form, shape, race, creed, color, religion, and sex. That tell you something?
  • I just assume the worst from the start. I will never have kids because I wouldn't ever be able to let them out of the house. There are perverts and predators absolutely everywhere.
  • I THINK: When some teen or adult stares at a child, and I mean s/he is quite focused on him/her (especially her, I suppose) then that would be grounds for suspicion. But you shouldn't jump to conclusions- - They could stare at a poster, a car, or anything else of interest and that child only happens to be in the line of sight. - They could stare at someone else in the crowd and that child only happens to be in a line of sight. - Or they might be staring at them not because they're attracted, but because they're jealous of the torrent of youth that just passed them by. They may think they've grown too old, too fast, and wonder if they're truly enjoying the youth they have in the meantime.
  • No. They come in the most surprising packages...they are good chameleons which helps them put parents at ease and entice children.
  • You can't tell if they are a pedophile just by looking at them. It is the spirit inside them that counts. It is what they let inside of them. If they let their actions slide out of the thin line. Everyone has the potential to be one that is why it is extremely important to keep your self in control. People have told me that I was a pervert but they made an assumption and it was incorrect. Children don't learn their boundaries until they are older. It takes a great deal of time to learn those boundaries by repeated training on self control. When a person becomes an adult it becomes a legal assumption that an adult will know his and her boundaries and perform their life according to the law. But things happen and it is important to flee a situation sometimes. For instance I am an uncle, and my sisters son spent a slumber party over with myself and his grandparents (who happen to be my parents). I was lying on my back on the couch fully clothed, as we all were and he was supposed to be sitting on the floor calmly watching the tv show. He is 3 now. He suddenly decided to jump up on my belly and give me a hug. I felt awkward because it was an uncontrolled environment because three year olds are so unpredictable. I thought about the difference between a pedophile and what we were doing and realized that it was about at that moment what my own intentions would be as a result of that. I decided that is was an innocent form of expressing his love for his uncle, and I only reciprocated in the way that his father might do, by returning the hug and rubbing his back. A person must make a conscious effort to keep their mind on good thoughts. Several years ago I was a juror on a case that involved a man and his girlfriends daughter. It was only through an analysis of his actions that placed him to be with the girl when the mother was away from home entrusting her in his care over a one month period of time that we determined that there was a possibility of his intentions proving evil toward the girl, and even then it was not evident beyond a reasonable doubt. The only evidence that proved the point that he was indeed having molestation activities and sex with the child was when the child became confused about each event because it became evident that she was trying to determine the difference between several events of digital and penal penetration over a period of a few years rather than just one month. The poor girl needed a detailed description of the event in order to answer the questions correctly. It was only by determining that he had made specific efforts to arrange for the alone time with the girl of a few hours on a repeated basis which included purchasing and using mild tranquilizers around the same time of his alone time with the girl that we were able to consider the possibility of his intention of indulging in pedophile activities with her. The jury vote was a final all for, but one against, his conviction of both digital and penal penetration violations. Since I led the council, and I guided it, I later asked the judge for further information about the case. I was relieved to realize that he had indeed been convicted of several previous violations against the child. I was relieved because I did not want to think that I was responsible for convicting an innocent man. Which by then I knew that he was not. So long story short. It is indeed very hard to prove a person a pedophile by the legal court system. That is why they have stings that catch the person actually doing the act of making a payment for child sex. I still think that many pedophiles that never pay for child sex go unconvicted because the family either hides it or it is just not evident until the child is an adult ad realizes that something was wrong about a specific event years back.

  • "The APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition, Text Revision gives the following as its "Diagnostic criteria for 302.2 Pedophilia": A. Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally age 13 years or younger); B. The person has acted on these sexual urges, or the sexual urges or fantasies cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulty; C. The person is at least age 16 years and at least 5 years older than the child or children in Criterion A." Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophile#Diagnosis This means that: - probably just looking at them will not be sufficient, but you will rather need their collaboration to find this out - you would need to be a health professional with an appropriate formation to make such a diagnosis However, some particular behaviors or activities could allow you to call the police or child care. But one is certain: if they are not involved in a particular behavior and you are not talking to them, you will have no possibility to find out.
