  • I don't believe there are evil people. There are people who do evil things. Some people just do evil a LOT and often. And I think evil is not relative because the evil should not be judged on the intent of the action ("I didn't mean to do anything evil"), but the action itself ("Was evil done?"). Slaughtering small children is evil. Even if I intended to do good by doing it or that I did not mean to do it in the first place.
  • no i guess you dont wake up one day and decide to be evil but you do wake up one day and realize you have been evil and thats when you have a chance to change your ways,i personally found it was easier to be bad than good but was strong enough to change
  • Yes I agree that much 'evil' is unconscious, as in 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions', but in itself, the term is very black-and-white, ignoring the fact that 'one person's trash is another's treasure'. Perhaps purposely causing suffering could be said to be more evil than unintentionally generating it, but that would probably depend on the motivation behind the purpose. Maybe it's easier to believe that evil is a 'fixed' entity because then the responsibility for its occurrence can be placed outside of ourselves.
  • There has actually been a lot of psychological research on this topic. If you can get your hands on it, there is a book called "Psychology (eighth edition)" by David G. Myers, which has a chapter on it. The book is intended for first year uni students, but is very easy to read. It explains it a lot better than I ever could. In australia at least, anyone can come into the uni campus and look at the books in the library there.
