My 7/8 y o dog has become more affectionate the past couple of months. normally disinterested but lately he's been jumping up at us for more affection..any idea why?

Not a vet. here, but have owned many dogs. from that experience, i can tell that dogs have feelings, very sensitive feelings. as they progress in age, their body begins to deterioriate, just like humans. they have aches and pains, like arthritis. I believe when dogs hurt, they have no way of expressing their pain. so, jumping into your lap may be one form of that expression. When humans have pain, it always is comforting if another human goes in symphaty for them. same occurs in dogs. needing affection may be a dogs way of telling you they are in pain and need your reassurance that everything will be okay.
