If you want to legitimately get hold of a Tank (i.e. without using the cheat code) and you can't be bothered to find 90 Hidden Packages, here's a fun way to do it: Firstly you have to buy Sunshine Autos in Viceport, then jack a car or take the free Sentinel and store it down in Garage 2 (second from left) facing the Pay 'n Spray. Save the game from the showroom and go out and cause mayhem. Get 2 or 3 stars and head back to Sunshine Autos, go up the ramp inside and shoot out the large window facing the road. From here you can take out the cops and their vehicles without too much trouble, unless you stand right in the opening they can't shoot you and there are no helicopters to worry about. Have some fun getting your level up to 6 stars (the rocket launcher is handy for this, it's conveniently located in the pool of the building at the intersection nearby.) You should now have a couple of Tanks driving in circles in the road out front. This is the tricky part, you'll need a sniper rifle or laser sight to shoot the soldiers in the Tank through the slot at the front under the gun. There are 2 in each, you'll know when you hit one, he'll fall out the door. Shoot both soldiers and the Tank will stop. You have to jump out the window and get into the Tank pretty quickly (unlike GTA3 empty Tanks disappear within seconds in Vice City.) This is when you're most likely to get busted and have to start again. If you do get it moving without getting caught, drive it down the ramp and straight into the garage farthest on the right (Garage 4), then just get out, go along to Garage 2 and drive the car from earlier straight into Pay 'n Spray. A six-star evasion and a Tank for free! Save the game and you're free to go get yourself a 'Stuff of Legend' media rating or dispense your own particular brand of justice on the streets of Vice City - I got up to Vigilante Mission level 92 with over $14 million in reward money in my Tank before I was finally busted.

Stealing a tank isn't all that complex. This is what's required. A TANK : either in the Yes Sir mission or with 6 Stars. 6 Stars : you can get 6 stars anywhere, you just need to have guts YOU DON NOT HAVE TO KILL THE PPL IN THE TANK! although i guess it doesn't hurt. All you need is the tank to stop moving. Final requirement is a GARAGE... and I can tell you this... it's bloody hard doing a reverse park at Hyman Condos, esp with the whole army after you!! ----- Haven't done anything cool with my tank yet. Getting a tank in the 'Yes Sir mission' is very easy. Be patient, and you'll see the convoy stops for lunch at the donut shop! Run to the tank and steal it, simple! Later in the game, getting a tank is also easy. Go to the police station at Washington beach. You can get a police uniform inside to the left in the changing rooms. There is a policeman in there who will shoot at you, but once you have put the uniform on he will stop. Drive to the army base, stop outside and walk in. The army will not shoot at you as they think you are a copper. You can take the tank or the hunter helicopter, get out of there, and have some fun. I have three tanks stored in my Sunshine Auto garages :-)

Get the cop outfit, walk into the army base and get the tank. no cops and no army guys will bother you.

Another way to do this is to go up to a rooftop with a helicopter. I recommend a staircase with an adrenaline pill nearby. It's in East Vice City, near a pizza place. You'll need a heavy machine gun of some kind (Assault Rifle, Minigun, M60). Start racking up a wanted level. Kill all opposition. Then, when the tanks rolling in, start shooting at them. The guys inside will probably come out (I say probably). Kill them, snag the tank, swivel the cannon to point behind you, start accelerating and shooting the cannon behind you to make you go faster (This makes it so that it's harder for the police to get you). Drive to your garage, deposit the tank, get out, save your game, reload your game to get rid of the wanted level. NOTE: The Sunshine Autos idea is good, except that it takes a while for the cars to come by. To make it easier, go out, get the wanted level, then come back to Sunshine Autos.
