Why do people like to answer questions? Is it because they genuinely like to answer questions, or just for the points?

I think for the most part people like to express their opinions.

I like to answer to lookup and learn or ask and learn.Learning is better that any points!

I think it has a great deal to do with our egos. We want to educate, and be acknowledged when we get either something correct or maybe useful to someone else. We all need approval and AB tends to tap into that need.

I like to put my opinion forward, and compare it with others. Also, as a tutor, I spend a lot of time answering questions, and enjoy the "Aha!" experience from time to time.

I can only speak for me, I answer questions I have answers for, can easily find answers for, or that make me laugh. I never, ever answer questions just for points.

I am used to it as a teacher. I have reasonably good knowledge. So I ask less questions and answer more questions. I know that I am good at etymology. But how good I am compared to others, that I do not know. But AnswerBag has given me that answer. My name appears there in the etymology section as expert.

I don't know why I waste so much time here. I think I might be hooked on watching the screen change! To make me feel smart? Fulfilling some need that I didn't know I had? Like to share thoughts and help others? I've got no idea. To be heard and make my opinion count? Maybe that's it, but there's so many other things I want to do. Why do I do this instead? I'm wasting precious time!!!! XP
