A BGAN, or Broadband Global Area Network, is a form of Satellite internet. It's a system uses two geostationary satellites with an additional satellite planned to be launched in 2007. This satellite will cover the Pacific, parts of Japan, Australia and Alaska. The system will then cover all parts of the world except for polar regions. Even when compared with other satellite internet systems bandwidth is extremely expensive at over $1 per megabyte. The advantage of BGAN over such systems is that the terminal is portable and can be set up in any location with a direct view of the satellite. With many satellite internet systems a large dish needs to be installed and correctly aligned with the satellite by a technician
