I've seen it offend many homosexuals. Its like using the same word to describe something wrong, dumb, or stupid to describe them. I can see how it would be offensive.

Of course it does. Think about words that describe you, then equate one of them with "dumb." It is insulting and demeaning by definition. People who use these words in this way primarily display their ignorance and prejudice.

*I* get offended! (though I am heterosexual). In the phrase that you describe, "gay" is used as a substitute for "stupid", "nonsensical", or "bad". I think the inherent homophobia in that construction is self-evident...:-(....

I think it's rather ignorant when people use "gay" to mean something is stupid or bad. To me that is saying that they equate gay with being something bad. Something they learned at home or from some ignorant friend. In that context, it's juvenile and insulting....yes, I find it offensive.

If they are talking about it being bright, cheery, happy, pleasant or jolly, I am not offended.

I have loads of Gay friends and they are not easily offended. They are a tough bunch as they have had to be... I think they use much worse words to describe themselves in my experience.

When I was a little girl, "gay" meant happy, cheerful..it was a word used to denote joy. It has been bastardized into a different meaning..I do not know what it means any longer, if not applied to someone whom one believes is homosexual or lesbian. I trust it has a less-than-positive meaning and is used by those whose vocabularies are limited. Could you please tell me what it means, if not homosexual? Thank you.

Would an ugly person be offended if you used the word 'ugly' in front of them to describe something? I think the answer in general is no, unless that gay person has a chip on their shoulder about the fact they are gay.

I don't find it offending, In fact I use it myself. E.G. Say If I am playing Company of Heroes and my army has just been decimated; "Argh f*cking hell this is so gay!" and exit the level. But if your army gets decimated on CoH your bound to go crazy, stuff on that game is expensice. (90 fuel for a Sherman!)
