  • i believe it could be for internet because with some companies they have mobile internet that receives a phone signal witch is separate unit with mine
  • It may be look like a SIM slot and a SIM card may fit, but it's highly possible the slot is for proprietary or service uses. I'd steer clear of putting anything in there that Dell doesn't advertise.
  • I am having de same problem!!damn it? IS ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER THIS
  • I found through tech support that it's meant for US customers using mobile broadband. The SIM card gets put into the laptop and the wireless data card can fit inside the laptop. Makes it a complete package. Not available north of the border though - maybe in 20 or 30 years.
  • i am also curious whether i will be able to use it as a cell phone sending sms messages
  • It is not for SIM cards. I have a similar slot on my laptop and it is for other sorts of cards. While a SIM card may physically fit, it won't do anything. What it CAN do is read the memory cards from varius devices. I have a 4 GB SD memory card in my digital camera. Rather than bother with a USB cable, I merely pop that SD card out of my camera and slide it into the slot on my laptop. Viola! * I've heard some laptops *do* have a SIM slot but have nothing connected to it at all, kind of like tits on a bull. There is no cell-transmitter or anything like that, so the slot is useless.
  • Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 910 Laptop, and on the back where the battery slot is located, there is a sim card slot. To answer your question, the sim card does wonders for me, especially if you want on the go wireless internet service anywhere. BUT....you have to have the right kind of wireless internet service. So far the ONLY place I know that offers that kind of service is with AT&T (cingular). AT&T has a 1 or 2yr. plan for this and,you pay monthly just like any other kind of internet service w. a plan. They give a sim card and you plug it in the slot, and just exactly like any other cell phone, you can use the internet service anywhere you go, that's got signal, take it out of home, out of town, out of state.. Guess what? you can still use the internet!!! AWESOME-NESS! I hope that answers your question. (What I stated above is TRUE, because that's what I have right now and I cancel my acct. with Charter Cable internet service.)
