  • It's always possible to question that which you believe. It's really the best way to do things. Intelligence and openminded-ness are values important in any belief system.
  • Let me tell you... we are all human and go through the same things. We all think that way not just you. The main thing of having a relationship with Christ is "Faith". I'm sure before you came to Christ you thought it was crazy. Well non-believers think that too. But its our job to let them know about the gospel and that it takes Faith to follow Christ. Dont feel guilty when questions like that cross your mind, just pray about it and the Lord will help you understand.
  • I had similar issues. I eventually left church and quit believing in God. I couldn't intellectually merge God with what I believed to be true on a scientific level. What happened to me is that God began to call me. I realized that what I thought of as God wasn't God at all but a bunch of dogma taught by churches all over the world. God is not housed in church. He does not reside with hypocrisies, hate, greed, and exclusionists. I learned that He is love. He exists where love exists. It didn't matter whether he created the world in six literal days or billions of years or something else. I learned that the details of how He does things isn't important. Just knowing He can create the world in six days and make it look like 6 billion is the same thing--and it doesn't really matter. What really mattered to me, then and now, is that He is always there. He can and will work things out for my benefit. I don't have all the answers and don't need them to believe in Him. He is love, the kind of love that is described in 1 Cor 13: 4-8 " 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails..." Anything that does not meet these standards is not of God.
  • The only way to be true in your beliefs is to question it every once in a while. It is a very natural thing to do. It only makes your belief stronger.
  • Thats a tough situation. Happens to be the one i am in right now. The church I am at has suddenly begun to rely heavily on prophecy of recent people who claim themselves to be prophets.. but I am less than sure. And I understand why people must think we are insane. Its curently rocked everything I used to think i strongly beleived in. And its even more tough to have a lot of friends and family who would certainly change their veiw of you had they known the doubts you were having. My advice. Figure out WHAT exactly you beleive. read your bible. figure out if you truely beleive it. if you even want to beleive it. Ask people for advice. Etc. Part of me wants to throw in the towel to christianity and forget about it. But deep down i still have that feeling of im going to hell, etc. Its a hard spot to be. And you have my sympathy. Good Luck!! ~+~
  • All a Christian is, is someone who is TRYING to follow Christ's teaching, and doing the best we can. We all fall short, we all have times of doubt, and we all still sin. We just do our best to live right and help others.
  • Questioning and having doubts is not inconsistent with Christianity. That is why our spiritual lives are soemtimes called a 'journey in faith.' We go forward, back up to make sure we are going in the right direction, sometimes we ask others for help, sometimes we wonder why we are even bothering with the journey at all. Talk with confidentially with others in your congregation and/or with your clergyperson, if you belong to a formal congregation. Take part in weekday studies if they are offered.
  • Of course! "The unexamined life isn't worth living" - I believe the same concept applies to the unexamined faith. The most dangerous people to inhabit our world today and in the past were those that believed in something blindly. Only when you can intellectually deconstruct all the aspects of your faith will you be able to make decisions in your life that you KNOW are what God wants of you. Otherwise, you will be too easily swayed by the rhetoric of others... some will be right but some will be wrong and that is a scary, scary thing. Ever read anything by Phillip Yancey? He's very good at this kind of intellectual examination and he freely admits to his own "major doubts." My favorites are The Jesus I Never Knew, and What's So Amazing About Grace.
  • Never feel guilty about having doubts. Challenging the status quo / mainstream standpoint is the basis for intellectual growth. Make up your own mind. Don't let others dictate what you should believe or how you should act without question. Majority opinion does not always indicate truth. "Why" is the only real source of power. - The Matrix.
  • I would suggest you read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I think you'll find that a lot of Atheists became Atheists when they actually stopped and thought about the religion. You're on the right path by acknowledging your intellectual questions, but your question sounded an awful lot like "Help! My precious beliefs are being challenged by my intellect! Please give me something to distract me from it!"
  • I thinnk that we, as human beings are supposed to question everything and not have blind faith. And after all our questioning and theorizing and summarizing, if we can still find that we have faith, then it's the truest faith of all.
  • even the Apostles , Jesus mother , had doubts and did not totally understand until HE ASCENDED and fullfilled PROPHECY.... ask questions , God wants you to, but study on your own too, Prove all things for yourself...
  • Of course. One of the greatest challenges of life is reconciling our physical and spiritual awareness. So far, I have found reasonable answers to all of my questions. My spirituality is probably not your average viewpoint. But it serves me.
