  • It's very Latin -- this means a number of people expect you to speak Spanish -- This also means sometimes it feels like you've left America and travelled to another country. It also means people have different work habits and cultural standards than a lot of other places in America. It's very expensive -- taxes, rents, property, food, gasoline are all higher than the rest of the country. Wages are a lot lower than the rest of the country, so you better have a professional degree, and even then, you will earn less in Miami. The weather is fantastic, except some years when the hurricanes pass near by and knock out the electricity for 2, 6, 8 or even ten weeks or more. The people are not very friendly, if you have lived some where in the Midwest where folks say hello on the street -- this won't happen in Miami. It is a world class city with lots of attractions, but carefully weigh the costs before you go -- it's not for everyone, and recently more people are leaving Miami each year -- and for the first time in its history the middle class population of declining, not growing.
  • Its expensive, dirty, and you better learn spanish.
