  • G'day Chubby Chaser84, Thanks for your question. According to Wikipedia, "A sausage is a prepared food product originating in all parts of Europe and the European cuisine, usually made from ground meat, animal fat, salt, and spices, and sometimes other ingredients such as herbs, and generally packed in a casing. Sausage making is a very old food preservation technique. Traditionally casings have been made of animal intestines, though they are now often synthetic. Some sausages are cooked during processing, and the casing may be removed at that time." Although sausages can be made from a variety of meats, beef and pork are the most common. I have attached sources for your reference Regards Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage The different types of sausage http://www.hub-uk.com/interesting/sausage-type.htm Homemade sausages http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/aa030298.htm

  • Gourmet or ordinary? Gourmet sausages can be made from chicken, turkey, beef...quite delicious, no junk and quite expensive. They are made with no preservatives so you have to eat them right after you buy them. Other sausages can be made from pork or "mystery" meat, but they are usually loaded with preservatives and don't cost as much! :)
  • Someone told me it was pig guts. That grossen me out and I didn't eat sausages for a while until I researched it more and found out that pig guts was only used in the olden days when it was affordable. Now days it's expensive and sausages are made artificually with many different ingredients.
