Shouldn't there be an arbitrator if someone down-rates what is a valid question that gets good points and responses from others? Or, shouldn't the down-rater have to say why they did this so we know what the problem is?

No. You also don't ask for an arbitrator if someone gives good points for a bad question. Other people can work against downrates by uprating, so by the end of the day all is fine usually. What is it that people have with downratings, they are not a slap in the face, they are just the lower half of the scale.

The thing you have to realise is that this is very much like any game. Points get you to the next level. And negative points do not matter in the grand scheme of things. Treasure your negative ratings! They usually mean that you found a bigot.

I wish they would do away with the downrate button altogether. Of course I would love to get a response for all the downrates but that's not how the trolls work.
