I had a phase in 2003 when I watched it regularly on TV. It is a fascinating traditional sport. I see it connected to other Japanese traditions such as crafts and customs, from the tea ceremony to lacquerware. I know that the current Yokosuna is Asashoryu, from Mongolia, but I am not really well informed anymore. There are also some fighters from Russia and Bulgaria in the major league now.

I love to watch Sumo... unfortunately I don't really know when it comes on, so I never see it. Alas.

Personally I do not. I'd rather watch boxing, not kickboxing or cage fighting (that's too violent). Not that Sumo wrestling is violent. On the contrary. It's just gross. But that's my opinion. My grandparents used to enjoy it though.

I have enjoyed watching it. I also enjoy seeing about their lives and training and history of it. it's a very non-violent combat sport, with so many rules and tradition, so civil:-)
-
No ~ but I enjoy watching motocross, kick boxing and surfing :)

No, I don't - why do you ask? Do you?

I love Sumo. I have seen it live 4 times in Tokyo and it is a great experience. I watch it on TV most of the time when it's on. 6 main tournaments per year in odd numbered months. 3 in Tokyo (Jan, May, Sept.), 1 in Fukuoka (Nov), 1 in Osaka(Mar) and 1 in Nagoya(Jul). 15 days of competition. Next Basho is in March.

... watching, yes ... participating, NO, for that, I prefer Judo.

I used to watch it many years ago in TV over here in the UK. I thoroughly enjoyed it. One of my favourites was a huge man from Hawaii. I think his name was Rashike or something like that. It was the mid 1980's. I wish they would show it again over here. Edit:- the mans name was Konishiki Yasokichi and here is a pic of him.

No, I am sorry to disappoint. I was in Tokyo in 1975 for 21/2 months but I did not even go once although my friends had invited me to go along with them on several occasions.
