  • TV is generally not a medium for some deep thinking. It's mainly an entertainment medium. Maybe that's why the news presented tend to be the obvious ones. If they presented issues such as the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and the independence of Kosovo every minute they might lose viewers (and eventually, ads).
  • Because people need to be educated on basic knowledge today, they are told about the healthy menu's at restaurants, Jared telling us how you can lose weight at Subway, etc... or even kids who just grew up in the drive-thru, dinner always came from the car window and was handed back from the drivers. A huge chunk of the population is clueless. Ronald Mcdonald isn't fat... how could McDonalds make you fat? The people in the commercials aren't fat, the employees in the job application brochure aren't fat... Plus its cheaper to eat bad then healthy. Low income families have always struggled with the concept of feeding them quantity over quality. What should be no-brainers... unfortunately aren't always no-brainers to some people.
