  • I don't know, I hate when that happens. I'm like, "The hell it isn't an exact match!" It seems like whoever approves those things do them at random.
  • That is the single most annoying thing about AB for me. For example, "Why is the sky blue?" will get denied a flag because you think it's the same as "Why is the sky blue and not purple?" Yet, I asked, "Have you ever tried fried turkey? Did you like it?" and it was merged with "Have you ever fried a turkey?" In the first instance the answers would be the same. One would have to explain why the sky is blue. In the second instance, have you ever fried a turkey does not answer if you've eaten it or if you liked it.
  • It's a subjective thing. As Idne noted there can be different answers if the question is SLIGHTLY altered, but if the answers would be the same, it's just trying to ask the same question differently. Originally I thought it would be to save space in the DB, but there's an appeal process, and if they change their minds, they separate the questions and answers again. Does this mean the questions and answers will be literally merged in the future, meaning they'll copy the answers over and delete the copy, or do they simply combine the answers? THAT I don't know.
  • now I bet I get D/R'd and cop a load of shit ..but here goes , I think it depends on who does the moderation, I have flagged questions as being the same and nothing is done ...yet a day or so later(sometimes a week) guess what its been merged.. so now I don't bother not that I have ever been a moderator as such (410pts out of 40600pts and 90%of those for trolls)..and at other times I have seen questions merged with another question when only one word is the same in the sentence... good luck on figuring it out!...lol
  • I've had a handful of questions merged for being dupes...do I always search questions to see if they've been asked before. Many I've flagged for being dupes...and they were rejected. And then I've had a few of mine merged that were only vaguely the same. I agree with another poster that it must depend on who is doing the moderating.
  • To dup or not to dup: that is the question. Does AB use volunteers? Perhaps handing duplications by a volunteer would be handled better by someone who is capable of dedicating themselves to just that task. Not to notify when there is one but to decide once a duplicate is submitted. Could it be worse than it is?
  • I'm wondering about the whole AB policy here---being new to the site. ------ ------ Are multiple accounts and cross-posting permitted on Answerbag, and if so, are they common (/not uncommon) and easily tolerated? http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/907630 ------ ------ Dagnabit! I'll cross-post if I feel like it. It's my 25 points. Capisce? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmAq9NhVP85a88Rg.wDQ9uEjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20080719110113AAPkm4x
