  • I don't think it is possible. If you do fall, you may get pinched some from the satir part going underneeth, but that is about it.
  • I guess it's possible that your hair could caught in the escalator...just try not to drink before riding any escalators and you'll be fine:)
  • You're not going to like this. http://www.elevator-expert.com/escalato.htm Yes, it is possible, though hair is one of the less common things to get stuck: shoes and clothing are muchy more common.
  • When I was a kid I was afraid I'd get sucked into where the steps "disappear" if I didn't get off in time. It was very stressful! Anyway, yes, your hair could get caught if you fall, and it could be quite painful. Though the chances of you falling are probably much smaller than you feel they are! You can always take the stairs, there is usually a set of stairs pretty close to escalators and it's good exercise!
  • I'm not sure if it's possible to be scalped, but I'm a little scared of escalators too! I once got part of my shoe hung in one, and it freaked me out. Don't worry though...the shoe was saved. :)
  • I fell on one once and broke my wrist on those sharp edges. I have a a little fear of it myself now. :) I guess anything is possible but the scenario you described - I would say is a slim to no chance. Now I am going to think about that every time I get on an escalator! :)
  • apparently it is possible, from reading the other answers - but i assume this is extremely rare and more often than not caused by stupidity while on the escalators. anywho, it's not weird, not weirder than having a phobia of clowns, anyway :-( lol
  • .. or your skin could get caught and you could be skinned alive, looking like a medical exhibit.
  • http://www.cdc.gov/eLCOSH/docs/d0300/d000397/d000397.html#8 The CDC has statistics on deaths involving elevators and escalators. Very interesting read, but it probably won't help you get over your phobia...
  • Of course not. Although you can hardly see any cracks down, it's certainly possible! Just like I don't like elevators for the reason that if I get stuck, I won't be able to climb out--and with all the different belts, wires, etc. in the elevator shaft, it's scary to me. :P
