Black widow and brown recluse spiders in my immediate area (just north of Los Angeles in the San Fernando valley). There are also diamond back rattle snakes in the lower hills and deserts just beyond. There was a black widow spider who had built a web in the basement of where I used to work. She was out of the way and wasn't bothering anyone. I let her be because I figured that perhaps she'd kill a few cockroaches or at least some flies.
