  • Yeah I do. There is a lot of stupid people out there that hurt them selfs. That said, I'm one of those stupid people, I live in MN where they are banned, so I'm sure glad WI has them so I can still go blow crap up.
  • I think safety needs to be the primary concern of states deciding whether or not fireworks should be banned... In dry states where fire is a real danger I think banning fireworks may be a good policy...
  • Me. Like banning fireworks? Never! Personal responsibility comes into play when using anything dangerous. Should we ban baseball bats too? They can cause harm too and normally just as serious harm as any firework. Besides, banning fireworks never really matters. Michigan bans "fireworks that leave the ground" but it's never enforced. Come to my neighborhood and on the 4th you will see the cops sitting on their cars watching the fireworks, doing nothing to stop it.
  • I believe they should be legal. If states really cared about the health and safety of the citizenry it would stop selling cigarettes before it banned fireworks. I believe in maximizing freedoms and banning anything like fireworks is a Nanny-state movement. I don't mind heavy regulations and heavy fines for those people and businesses that choose to violate the law, but an outright ban is protecting the stupid people. We should know who they are by their inability to count to ten using their fingers.
  • A similar thing has just happened in Oslo, Norway (specifically the city, not the country) but obviously not for the same date ;) IMO it is wrong. Yes they may save some lives/injuries, but it spoils the fun for so many people. I think this is just PC gone crazy (over safety conciousness).
  • I can't think of a better way to celebrate the freedom available in our country than to not be able to buy fireworks.
  • States shouldn't ban exploding or flying fireworks if they're going to allow them to be sold there! Then they just end up arresting and/or ticketing those who didn't pay attention to the law, bought their fireworks and just set them off, even if they were being completely responsible in setting them off. It's a dumb law, because even many law-abiding citizens do so, and many of THEM are public servants (cops, EMTs, etc.) I've also heard about cops just driving by where illegal fireworks were set off, and not even stopping to warn the perps. The problem is there are stoopid people who get injured or killed, and set fires every year. It's just like all the dumb warnings required on a lot of stuff now (Stupidest: McDonalds - Coffee - Warning... Coffee is HOT and can produce burns (to your old vajayjay?) DO NOT place cup between legs while driving." stuff like that.) Because ONE person didn't "know" that something would happen, the world has to deal with their stupidity by having to read all these warnings. There are also YouTube videos of kids "shooting" bottle rockets and Roman Candles at each other, that other kids will say "That looks fun..." and do. No wonder some states feel we need to be protected from ourselves. Be safe, and all should be fine. If the cops (or neighbors) see idiots being dangerous, then they deserve tickets and having the rest of their illegal fireworks confiscated (by the cops or parents). Otherwise (they're being as safe as they can in setting them off, and neighbors don't overly mind the noise for a day or so), who cares?
  • We used to live in St. Joseph, MO...just north of KC. In that town, they allow fireworks on the 4th only. The problem was, we had gone to a big fireworks display downtown & when we headed home, there were crazy people in the streets (not small side streets, mind you) shooting the firworks at cars, people walking home, homes, etc, etc. I guess that would be the main problem in allowing them? There's always going to be some idiot out there ruining it for everyone else. It's kind of hard for a town to say "If you can be responsible, you can shoot fireworks." They have to make a general rule that covers everyone, unfortunately. Even the idiots.
  • The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more....... Written by John Adams to his wife. This is America's celebration of it's independence from England, it is our national birthday..... As a child, this was one of my favorite celebrations. It was a neighborhood event. All the families on our street would be outside, BBQing, playing, and lighting fireworks!!! If us kids didn't get at least 1 burn on our little fingers then we didn't have enough fun!!!! This is a tradition I am PROUD to carry on with ny kids. In Cal. many cities have banned fireworks. In Modesto, however you still can!!! And we do!!! A friend, who lives in Nev. always brings the really good ones!! P.S. If my kids don't get at least 1 burn on their little fingers then they didn't have enough fun!!! hahahaha!!!!
  • I think fireworks are dangerous and you have to know what you are doing, but I don't think they should be banned because they are part of this countries celebration of their independence.
