I would like to know, in 2008, how there are still racist people in this country. The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964...over 40 years ago. We've made LOTS of progress, I know, but it just seems like there are still so many racists today.

It is primarily learned from parents. My grandparents were racist, but my parents did not share those thoughts and thus they broke the cycle. That's typically how it's done.

What exactly is the question? How are there racist people? There will always be racist people, ALWAYS. While we may have moved forward, a utopia we are not, nor ever will be.

To Mr. BLT, I understand the concept that there will always be racist people. It's human nature, I get it. I'm not stupid. What I was asking was how people can be racist in this day and age. I want to know the logic of a racist person. How can someone be so stupid?? Because, to me, that's the only logical reason there is for someone to be racist. Pure stupidity and ignorance. If there is another logical reason, I would like to know.

Many racist were born before 1964 and many since. Sadly not everyone shares the current popular ideaology.

Isn't it just insane??? Some people are stuck in the same mindset they had when they were young. My mom is still friends with a neighbor lady of ours from Northlake, Illinois. I think this woman has not left the block for 50 years. It would be funny-sad if it were not so dangerous and destructive. Now that Obama has been elected, I am hoping that black people have learned from these atrocities and can move on. I love people from every race, that is what makes the world so facinating. I also have never had one problem with anyone of any race because of this attitude. Anyone who says they are justified in hating a race of people are having these troubles because they hate. Its very hard to hate someone who loves you back.

Racism feeds off of and is bred by ignorance. So, sadly, as long as their are people tolerant of their own ignorance there will always be racial hatred. Hating someone because of the color of their skin or their country of origin is just as stupid as hating someone who likes McDonalds when you prefer Burger King...
