  • Which amendments? There are 27. But I'm going to answer your question as if you were asking about the original 10, also known as the Bill of Rights. The latest amendment to be ratified was in 1992, but was proposed in 1789 as one of the original 12 amendments. The first two of these amendments were not approved when the others were in 1791. Today we know those 10 amendments that were passed as the Bill of Rights, or amendments 1-10. So basically, as of 1992, 11 of the orginial 12 proposed amendments had been ratified. These first 12 proposed amendments were largely written by James Madison, who is known as the Father of the Constitution.
