Ive just bort a puppy... what is your opinion of tapping them on their noses when naughty?

People will say it mean. But thats how dogs learn in the wild, through getting thier butts wopped by other dogs in the pack. As long as youre not giving him a right cross every time he doesnt come when called, its ok.

you have to take the time to explain to the dog exactly why you are hitting it. i don't mean lecture your dog for 20 minutes either...i mean if it shits on the floor, drag him over to the shit, force him to look at it, and say "no, bad dog. shit outside!NO!BAD DOG." THEN HIT IT ON THE NOSE, AND BRING IT OUTSIDE and wait until he takes a second crap, then reward him with hugs and "good boy!!!good good boy!".......that way the dog figures out he will be rewarded for good behavior, and punished for bad. if he bites a child, you bring him to the child, say NO, BAD DOG, and hit it for biting the child. then bring it outside or in its cage so it figures out that you don't like him biting children. you have to train your dogs early.but do not whip your damn dog.thats abuse.one or two swipes on the nose every time it fucks up, and it'll figure it out within a week or two depending on the breed.

tell it NO tap its nose and eventually it'll figure it out. just don't beat it and i've no problem w discipline and training a dog =)

it's the only way it'll learn. it's not a child, you can't reason with it. a tap on the nose + growling at it is fine (it helps), just don't start kicking it.

no see if its bad lightly smack it and immediatly put it where it should poop or whatever and demand 'No, then move it to the proper place.
