Intolerable and impossible.

I do not think they are appropriate for business attire. If you have one and a job opening comes down to you and another equally qualified person, assume you will not get the job. A truly professional attire includes the absence of visible piercings and tattoos.

When I was an office manager I never really cared to be honest. Tongue rings shouldn't be readily apparent to clients anyway. unless you are sticking your tongue out at them which I would have a problem with on SO many levels that the tongue ring would be least of my concerns. By and large though I am not an appearance driven person. I used to do alot of interviewing with other organisations and an oft heard comment was "Well they looked very smart". To which my response was usually "we're hiring an accountant, not a bloody clothes horse!" I feel far too much emphasis is placed on workplace appearance and "image" rather than ability and results. But I am in the (vast) minority. Many employers (they aren't always too bright bless 'em) equate a good suit, lack of jewellery and a short hair cut with intelligence and capability. Lord knows why...

It is kool if you are young and trendy and works in the media or entertainment industry. But if its an educational or a professional background, tongue rings wont look very professional or suitable to the dress code.

On a hot secretary...I don't care. But it doesn't look professional. Tongue and nose piercings just don't look professional.

Never never never will I hire any rude little empty head with a tongue ring. It's my prerogative and I'll even put down in writing on my business letterhead the reason you were not hired is *subject shows a lack of respect for others and has obvious antisocial issues* Done deal.
