  • I assume you mean a "credit bureau" such as Experian or Equifax, rather than a "credit union," which is a specialized type of banking institution. The answer is no. While sending a collection agency a "good faith" payment may delay the reporting, it won't prevent them from eventually reporting it once they realize you don't intend to follow through.
  • you should never deal with collection agencies on the phone or in person. Always deal with them in writing. You do have a chance to get that from showing up or even being removed from your credit report if you offer a pay for delete. Many collection agencies will say that they can not remove information from your credit report, but it's a lie. If they want the money really bad, they can do that.. and always make sure its in writing on company letter head.
