As a professional, your best bet is always a CPA. There is NO, I repeat NO, added value from going to H&R Block and clones. If you make less than $40k, there's several options available to you to get well-trained preparers to file your taxes for free. Look for the VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) in your area - 1-800-829-1040 is the number for the IRS and they have information about where sites are located. It's free and independent from the IRS - the IRS only sponsors the locations with software and materials, and they are well trained and supervised. If you make less than $40k, you should not pay for software or preparation. If you make more, it's typically beneficial to consult an accountant. Some smaller firms have walk-ins and you can always try negotiating a price.

Everyone's needs are different. If you have one W-2 and do not own a home then you can do it yourself. If you are scratching your head wondering what a W-2 is then have someone else prepare it for you. If you need to do a mark-to-market or net operating loss carryback...I suggest seeing a professional!
