You need to have something interesting enough to talk about.It helps if you are famous and people want to have you come to their University. Ex Politicians get asked all the time and can command tens of thousands of dollars per lecture.
Typically you need a Master's degree to be an instructor and a Ph.D to be a professor.
If you have a great deal of experience in a particular area of something, then you may be able to lecture based upon your life/work experience, but it is rare.
