Depends on the agency. I worked at a large agency where you started at a 50-50 split. You worked your way up to larger splits dependent on the business you brought in. Other agencies will give you a larger split but will charge you a "desk fee" to cover the cost of your desk, ie. overhead like telephone, rent, copy and fax machines.
