It doesn't matter if they are mature or not. They are to young to be home alone

When my siblings and I were that age we were left alone for a couple of hours after school. It didn't do us any harm, you may want to check whether you'd be breaking any laws however I'd imagine social services has better things to do with their time.

This is a good website: http://www.latchkey-kids.com/latchkey-kids-age-limits.htm and it also says that National SafeKid recommends no child under 12 be left alone and that is also a judgement call due to the maturity level.

regardless of the law, I would not put them in that position. What things could possibly go wrong? mature or not, is a 10 year old able to cope with any potential difficulties?

I can't speak for america... Last I heard, in UK a 12 year old can be left to look after younger children. An unrelated babysitter has to be 14.

Yes, they are too young!! Until the day comes when both of your children are able to outsmart a child molester - and have the judgement to DO IT - they will be too young. Even adults let strangers into the house and get badly hurt by falling for whatever line they were fed at the front door.

It really deends on how you feel. The fact that you are asking, leads me to believe that you are hesitant. My sons are 8 and 6 and I have left them home alone for 30 minutes. I figure they are safer in my home for 30 than they are outside, alone, playing with friends, for 60.

Yes they are too young :)
