If you mean on this board, points allow you to ask questions. If you answer questions, you earn points for answering, then use your points to ask your own questions. You start out with 25 to get you started. This keeps the board interactive by encouraging people to answer, as well as ask. If everyone came swarming to the board just to ask, then where would we be! lol. So no, you can't buy beach front property, but you can buy answers!

POInts have more meaning to the questions and especially the answers. They don't really mean anything tangible to the members. But they are everything to the answers. It's what sets one good answer up higher so when someone wants to know something they can see which answers are tops. It's a way to show what is helpful and what is not.
