  • It's a descriptive word that people sometimes use to be mean, when they're describing other people or their ideas,
  • If your child ran into the road and nearly gets killed then "stupid" is one of the lesser words to use, but if used in a derogatory manner to belittle someone then the person who uses it is the stupid one and even more so for not realising it. + :o)
  • If you say it to someone you don't know very well and they haven't shown you any disrespect, then yes, it's abusive. If you're scolding someone who deserves it because they've been incompetent or irresponsible, then that's acceptable, but not always the most professional way to go about it. If you say it to your friend and he or she doens't mind and you call eachother names anyway, then that's fine.
  • The word "stupid" is a word that can be used to really hurt someone. I don't care for the word. Ignorant is something that I use more often. No matter what word you use, be careful in how you use them, especially the word "stupid".
  • If used in any way to refer to any human being, it is, indeed, mean. I heard it enough from my first husband to consider it abusive. (I won't even call my cats stupid.) I do, however, use it in addressing things without feelings, like the stupid computer crashed; these stupid numbers don't add up. I probably wouldn't even do that if there were children to hear me.
  • Words are just words. It is how we use them that makes them mean or not.
  • We teach our kids that there are words that are "bad" ya know the standard cuss words, I have always told my kids that they will get in more trouble for calling someone stupid then they will for using the "f" word or one of the like. "Stupid" and "I hate you" do more damage and are more rude and insulting than using cuss words. I would rather my kid have the mouth of a dirty sailor than to use those kinds of words or statements.
  • i hate being called stupid, dumb or idiot. My boyfriend and I joke around a lot and he calls me those names jokingly but I don't like it...it makes me feel bad inside. I'm not sure why because I dont feel like I'm an idiot but if I say something "stupid" and it's pointed out I feel even more foolish
